The details make the difference

Put your budget into the way it plays.

A great guitar should make you want to play longer. JTG brings the Tyler approach to a range with substance behind the headstock: purposeful neck shapes, useful switching and hardware chosen for the job.

Developed by James Tyler Guitars and built in China under Tyler oversight, JTG offers a more accessible way into the family. Its appeal is the complete package: feel, versatility, character and an included case.

JTG Molten Iron neck, rosewood fingerboard and frets

A neck you settle into.

The Standard ’59 profile gives your hand something to hold. On the MK1 and MK1-FR, rolled fingerboard edges and a 10–14″ compound radius pair comfortable chord work with room for expressive bends.

JTG Blue Milky Way pickups, midboost controls and gold hardware

A boost with a purpose.

MK1 and MK1-FR models put an active midboost and bypass button on the guitar. Add body and presence for a lead, then return to your core sound without reaching for a pedal.

JTG M1 Black Metallic body and twin humbuckers

Clean sparkle. Real punch.

The MK1 family combines two single-coils, a bridge humbucker and five-way switching. Move between clear rhythm parts and a fuller bridge voice on one guitar. Prefer twin humbuckers? Choose the M1.

JTG Blue Milky Way fretboard and body detail

Details your hands notice.

Jescar 51100 frets, Indian rosewood fingerboards and CTS controls are part of the JTG specification. These are practical ingredients for an instrument you will keep reaching for.

JTG MK1-FR White Pearl with Floyd Rose bridge

Choose how you move.

The MK1 pairs a two-post tremolo with locking tuners. The MK1-FR adds a Floyd Rose 1500 for a different kind of expression. The M1 takes the fixed-bridge route with its TOM-style setup.

Included JTG hardshell case detail

The case is part of it.

A JTG moulded hardshell case is included. Add the bold finishes and unmistakable Tyler silhouette, and you get a complete instrument with a character all its own.

Features vary by model. Midboost, HSS switching and compound radius apply to the MK1 family; the M1 has its own HH electronics and 9.5″ radius. Check the individual guitar listing for exact specifications.

Three ways to find your voice

Choose your kind of JTG.

MK1

MK1

The versatile HSS all-rounder.

Two single-coils, a bridge humbucker, five-way switching and onboard midboost. An alder body, maple neck, rolled rosewood fingerboard and two-post tremolo make this the starting point for players covering a lot of musical ground.

MK1-FR

The Tyler attitude. Full Floyd expression.

Built on a player’s reputation

From the L.A. studio scene to your next session.

James Tyler’s reputation was earned at the workbench, one player and one improvement at a time.

Starting with repairs in the early 1970s, Tyler became a trusted name among Los Angeles session musicians. Their demands helped shape instruments made for the realities of recording and performing. JTG carries that player-focused approach into a more accessible range, with its own specifications and manufacturing.

1972

Tyler’s repair work begins in a garage.

1982

A lead/rhythm circuit with a Demeter midboost preamp is developed.

1987

The Studio Elite and distinctive Tyler headstock debut at the Los Angeles Guitar Show.

Tyler players over the years

Michael Landau · Steve Lukather · Dann Huff · Dean Parks · Tim Pierce

These musicians are part of James Tyler Guitars’ documented artist history. Their inclusion refers to the wider Tyler brand, rather than an endorsement of the JTG models shown here.
